About GYH

Welcome to Grassroots Yoga & Health!

Grassroots Yoga is the home of inspired hatha yoga, combining skilful alignment, awareness, intention and heart.  We believe yoga is for everyone! It was founded by the visionary Katie Lane in 2013, and is now under the leadership of Cara & Veronica, both long time students of Katie and involved in the Grassroots community since it opened its doors.

Our team of highly trained teachers offer alignment based yoga classes, designed to empower the student to have their own deep relationship with their yoga. We have a range of core classes which work through a syllabus of level appropriate poses,  offered as Yoga 1 - Beginners, Yoga 1&2 - Intermediate, Yoga 2 - Advanced, Yoga 2/3 - Masterclass.

The focus is skillful physical alignment woven into playful, progressive flow. Our classes vary from creatively challenging to quietly mindful. As well as our core classes, we also offer a full spectrum of specialised additional classes, see our full offerings here. Influenced by the tradition of Anusara Yoga and Tantra, we also include aspects of vinyasa flow and therapeutic yoga.

Located in the Tannery, our studio is beautiful to be in. With plenty of natural light, gorgeous exposed beams and beautiful wooden floors you feel like you are coming home as you walk in the door. We have a full selection of props to enrich your experience and sense of support throughout your practice.

As a centre for deeper yoga learning we offer a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program recognized by Yoga Alliance. We love to host regular workshops with our own senior teachers, as well as bring our overseas mentors and teachers here to Christchurch to share their experience and knowledge with you.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to create and foster a community of committed students and teachers of yoga.

Our intention is to inspire and support full vibrant living through a passionate and committed practice of yoga.

We aim to create an uplifting physical space, provide highly trained compassionate teachers, and offer classes that both empower and educate.
