SATURDAY 18th SEP 1-2.30pm
In this 90 minute hybrid class, we will mindfully incorporate MFR into a backbend-focused asana practice. We will apply techniques to relax the areas that often restrict heart opening, and to target the muscles we need to recruit for functional and resilient movement. We will end with feel-good techniques to release tension and ease into a state of deep relaxation. Bring your own set of MFR balls or tennis balls (bring 2 matching).
Self-Myofascial Release (MFR) is a set of self-directed and adaptable techniques that use props to gently manipulate the muscles and fascia. It is an excellent complement to a yoga practice, and can help you prepare for movement by hydrating your soft tissues, improving muscular imbalances, and increasing range of motion. Studies suggest MFR can also reduce soreness and stress, support post-exercise recovery, and regulate the nervous system to allow you to surrender into nourishing rest.
Jesse was first introduced to Myofascial Release about two years ago, on her journey to her 500hr yoga teacher certification with YOGA MEDICINE. While curiosity inspired her to sign up for a training she initially knew little about, she quickly found that adding MFR to her own yoga practice allowed her to shift into a slower, more mindful, and deeply intuitive place. Through working one-on-one with students on a variety of journeys, she also discovered the power and versatility of MFR to complement so many aspects of life on and off the yoga mat. She has become passionate about sharing these techniques, and is really excited for the chance to go a little deeper with the Grassroots kula!
