If you’ve ever gone for a massage or another form of bodywork, you’ve likely experienced the diverse benefits of these therapies. While most of us can’t get a massage every day, many of us can find similar valuable effects from a regular Self-Myofascial Release (MFR) practice.
MFR is a set of self-directed and adaptable techniques that use props to gently manipulate the muscle and fascial tissues. It is an excellent complement to yoga or sport training, and can be incredibly helpful for injury prevention and recovery. Studies suggest MFR can reduce muscle soreness and pain, improve circulation, and increase range of motion, functionality, and resilience within the body. Evidence also indicates great emotional benefits of MFR, helping you release stress, down-regulate the nervous system, and ease into a state of deep rest.
In this 4-part series we will talk about what fascia is, why it is often overlooked, and why we should give it more consideration. We will discuss the wide range of physical and psychological effects of MFR, and different ways we can apply these techniques in our own unique bodies for our individual needs. We will learn how to target and release specific areas of the body, and ultimately we aim to empower you to add this potent and versatile tool to your self-care tool kit.
