If you’ve ever gone for a massage or another form of bodywork, you’ve likely experienced the diverse benefits of these therapies. While most of us can’t get a massage every day, many of us can find similar valuable effects from a regular Self-Myofascial Release (MFR) practice.

MFR is a set of self-directed and adaptable techniques that use props to gently manipulate the muscle and fascial tissues. It is an excellent complement to yoga or sport training, and can be incredibly helpful for injury prevention and recovery. Studies suggest MFR can reduce muscle soreness and pain, improve circulation, and increase range of motion, functionality, and resilience within the body. Evidence also indicates great emotional benefits of MFR, helping you release stress, down-regulate the nervous system, and ease into a state of deep rest.

  • Athletes looking to support relaxation and recovery
  • Yogis wanting to build more body awareness and access those hard to reach spots
  • Anyone wanting to practice self care and can’t get to a massage therapist each week
  • Anyone looking to learn more about anatomy and physiology in particular fascia
  • No prior yoga experience required. As long as you can freely get up and down from the floor you can benefit from this practice.

Jesse was first introduced to Myofascial Release about two years ago, on her journey to her 500hr yoga teacher certification with YOGA MEDICINE. While curiosity inspired her to sign up for a training she initially knew little about, she quickly found that adding MFR to her own yoga practice allowed her to shift into a slower, more mindful, and deeply intuitive place. Through working one-on-one with students on a variety of journeys, she also discovered the power and versatility of MFR to complement so many aspects of life on and off the yoga mat. She has become passionate about sharing these techniques, and is really excited for the chance to dive a little deeper with the Grassroots kula!
