The first day of Spring is here, and as I drove into class under the radiant blue moon, I felt the layers of winter slowly peeling away.
Each season serves its purpose.
But isn’t the feeling of Spring just incredible?
There’s new growth, new life, and a warmth that seems to make everyone around us bloom—smiles are wider, laughs linger longer. Winter offers us rest and restoration, while Spring ushers in a surge of fresh energy.
So, how can we channel this newfound energy?
It’s tempting to dive in with long to-do lists and lofty goals, but this can easily lead to mid-Spring burnout.
What if this Spring were different? Set your intentions, jot down your goals (we know you love a good list!), but also take a moment to assess the actions required. Are they realistic? Here’s a tip: if the steps seem unmanageable during your busiest week, it may be time to adjust your timelines or lower the bar just a bit. We often underestimate what small, consistent actions can achieve and overestimate the results of short, intense efforts.
Talking through your plans with someone else can be a game-changer. They can help keep you grounded and accountable. When we plan alone, it’s easy to overcomplicate things, which often leads to procrastination or giving up too soon.
What Actions Does Spring Naturally Encourage?
- The Great Spring Clean: This doesn’t just apply to your home or possessions but to your habits and even your body! If you’re looking for help decluttering, check out FlyLady. Let go of the old to make space for the new, but take time to reflect on what you want that “new” to be for you.
- Energy Growth: More movement, more exercise, more action—but remember, “more” doesn’t have to mean overdoing it! Nurture your energy gradually, rather than burning out quickly. Choose what feels good for you (not just what you think you “should” do). If you’re returning to movement after an injury or a long break, invest time in creating safer alignment and body awareness. It’s the best investment you’ll ever make.
- Connection & Reflection: Before the busyness of a Kiwi summer sets in, take some time to marinate in the energy of Spring. Ask yourself:
- What do I want to grow in my life?
- How will I stay connected to my inner wisdom while taking action in the world?
- What seeds of love will I plant in my relationships?
- How can I draw inspiration from nature’s creativity and allow my own creativity to blossom?
As new life unfolds and Spring’s beauty surrounds us, how will you get out and embrace it?
Most importantly, be kind to yourself during this season of growth and transformation.
